When Is Middle School?

Middle school is after elementary school and before high school. Middle school are grades six, seven , and eight in many school districts but in some it is only grades seven and eight. During middle school students range in age from 11 to 14 years old.

A sixth grade student can be as young as 11 years while an 8th grader in their last year of middle school can be 14 years old.

Middle school is also referred to as junior high in some school districts.

They are essentially the same thing with a different name.

Most of the time middle school is a separate building from the lower elementary grades and the high school grades.

At the Illinois school district I teach 8th grade at our school is called a junior high.

The next town over they call the grades six to eight a middle school instead of a junior high even though it’s the same grades.

What Is After Middle School?

After middle school is high school.

Middle school ends when eighth grade is completed.

After that high school starts with 9th grade and finishes with 12th grade.

I wrote this article all about high school right here.

What Is Before Middle School?

Before middle school is elementary school.
