How Long Is High School?

High School in the United States lasts 4 years, it is made up of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Students entering high school are typically 14 years of age and complete high school at 17 or 18 years of age.

The other name for 9th grade is “freshman” year. The name for 10th grade is “sophomore” year. For 11th grade the name is “junior” year and 12th grade is “senior” year.

What Comes After High School?

After high school attending a school is no longer required by law.

At this point students are legal adults (18 years of age) and have several options.

  • College or University
  • Find a job/enter the workforce
  • Trade school (plumbing, welder, electrician, car mechanic, construction worker, hair stylist, dental hygienist, MRI technician, etc..)
