Is 8th Grade Middle School?

Yes, in the United States 8^th grade is middle school. Eight grade is the final year of middle school. In most school districts throughout the United States middle school is either grades 6^th, 7^th and 8^th or just 7^th and 8^th.

Students in 8^th grade usually enter 13 years old and leave 8^th grade 14 years old. Trust me, I teach 8th grade in a western suburb of Chicago and these are the ages of my students.

What Is After 8^th Grade?

At the end of 8^th grade most schools will have a graduation ceremony for students. Once 8^th grade is finished the students move on to high school. This article I wrote explains high school grade levels in the United States. Their first year in high school is 9^th grade and is also called freshman year.

High school lasts four years.
