Do Teachers Get Vacation Days?

No, teachers do not get vacation days. Teachers don’t work during winter break, spring break, summer break, as well as several other days throughout the year like Thanksgiving and Easter. Teachers get sick days and personal days that they can use throughout the school year but no additional vacation days.

Other than the personal days and sick days teachers don’t get any additional vacation days during the school year.

Being a teacher it’s actually pretty easy to plan a vacation because we know at the start of the school year which days we don’t work.

Teachers usually get a school year calendar that they can use to plan out any kind of vacation during an extended weekend or winter/spring break.

Most jobs that are outside of teaching have a more traditional amount of vacation days that is fixed and increases the longer you work there.

How Do Teachers Get Days Off?

When teachers, myself included, need a day or two off we have to use either a sick day or personal days.

School districts give teachers a fixed amount of sick and personal days for each school year that teachers can use.

Do Teachers Get Paid During The Summer?

Yes, teachers do get paid during the summer.

Teachers also get paid during winter and spring break.

As a matter of fact a lot of teachers get paid during the summer as well.

How?

Let me explain.

Teachers usually have the option of spreading their salary the entire calendar year or only receive their salary during the school year.

For teachers that opt for spreading their salary through the calendar year then they get paid every week or two the entire year.

Teachers that opt to get paid during the school year and the summer get paid even during the summer months.

I recently wrote an article right here about teachers getting paid during the summer and why it’s even possible.
