What Is 10th Grade Called?

In the United States 10th grade is called sophomore year of high school. It is the second year of high school after 9th grade or freshman year. Junior year is 11th grade and senior year is 12th grade.

I put together a table below that organizes high school grades by their alternate names.

High School Grade Alternate Name

Sophomore Year Of High School

During sophomore year of high school student are typically 15 years of age when entering or will turn 15 shortly after the start of the school year.

When students complete their sophomore year they are usually already 16 years old or are going to turn 16 shortly after the school year ends.

One of the highlights of sophomore year for students is taking driver’s education during this time and getting a driver’s license.

The year before sophomore is called freshman and the year following sophomore is called junior year.
