Can Teachers Hear Breakout Rooms?

No, teachers cannot hear breakout rooms. If you are in a breakout room your teacher cannot hear anything what is being said in the breakout room. The only way a teacher can hear a breakout room is to enter the breakout room themselves. The teacher can only hear what is being said in the initial/main meeting room, not any of breakout rooms until they enter the room.

Only the people assigned to the breakout room and present can hear what is being said in the breakout room.

How do I know this? I’m a teacher! I teach 8th grade and use Zoom every day while I’m teaching. Check out my video below where I demostrate how teachers cannot hear Zoom breakout rooms.

Can Teachers Record Breakout Rooms?

Teachers cannot record breakout rooms unless they are in the breakout room themselves.

If the teacher is in the “main session” of Zoom and you are in a breakout room they cannot record what is going on in the breakout room.

The only way a teacher can record a breakout room would be to join the breakout room first

So there you have it, your teacher cannot record you while you are in a breakout room nor can they hear what you are saying in the breakout room. The only time a teacher can record a breakout room is when they enter the room.

Can Teachers Enter Zoom Breakout Rooms?

Yes, of course teachers can enter breakout rooms!

The teacher is able to assign students to complete a task in the breakout room and is able to checkup on them whenever they want to.

I often have students in the breakout rooms and as soon as I enter it goes quiet right away.

Why?

Well, because now the students that were in the breakout room have seen that I have entered and can now see them (if their video is turned on) and hear them!

Busted! Time to get started on your school work!

Take a look at my video above (In this article) where I demonstrate this.

Can Teachers See You In Breakout Rooms?

No, teachers cannot see you in breakout rooms if the teacher themselves are not in the breakout room.

While you are in a breakout room the only people that can see you are the other people that are in that breakout room with you as long as your video is on.

The only time a teacher can see you is when the teacher enters the Zoom breakout room to check up on you.
