Are School Lunches Free?

School lunches are not free. However, there are two options available to low income parents/guardians that will make it a little easier for their child to get a school lunch. Some parents/guardians can request assistance due to low income. In this case the student will either get a free school lunch or a lunch at a reduced price.

How Much Are School Lunches?

School lunches will vary in price but they are usually between $3.00 and $5.00 per day.

The price will depend on the school district though.

Not all school districts have lunches for the same price.

By the way this is for the standard lunch that the school offers which usually includes the main menu item like pizza, a burger, etc., a vegetable, fruit, and a drink.

How Can You Get Free/Reduced Lunch?

First thing you should do is contact the school and see what is the income level that you have to be below in order to qualify.

In order to qualify for free/reduced lunch you may need to show proof of income to the school.

This is usually a copy of your recent tax return.

You will usually need to reapply every year for free/reduced lunch.

By the way children that receive the free/reduced lunch will also qualify to have their fees waived for field trips.

If you feel like you could be getting a free or reduced price lunch then I suggest you take advantage of the opportunity.
